It seems such a natural association of words: vacations - Spain! It’s becoming harder and harder to find anyone who hasn’t taken their holidays in Spain at least once.

And it’s easy to understand why. For beach lovers there are miles and miles of coasts, some with beautiful long sand beaches, other with quiet little coves. More important, the weather is extremely reliable in the summer, so you don’t have to pack your umbrella, jumper, jacket and raincoat just in case! And since it’s such a popular destination, it’s easy to find tours of Spain and vacation packages that often work out cheaper than staying at home! You might even find yourself in a wonderful villa right next to the beach for a very reasonable price.

For nature lovers, there’s wonderful countryside: mountain ranges, gorges, lakes and wetlands, forests… The network of highways and motorways is good – and getting better all the time – so it’s easy to get from one part to another quickly and easily.

For those who prefer culture in their vacations, Spain boasts first-class museums and wonderful monuments all over the country, although particularly in Andalusia. It’s difficult not to be impressed with the three wonderful museums in the center of Madrid, Gaudi’s architecture in Barcelona, the Alhambra in Granada, the Mosque in Cordoba, and so many more.

Then there are the specialty holidays: riding, golf, trekking, cruises…. Not to forget the fantastic nightlife and shopping.

How to Choose

Given all these options, it’s not easy to choose, so we’d like to help you.

Your first decision must be whether you’re going to opt for a vacation package or for an independent stay or tour. If you’re going for a beach holiday to the coast, you’ll probably find much better prices – and perhaps a greater range of options – if you go for a package. If you want to do something independently while you’re there, you’ll find plenty of travel agents to help you organize your excursions, or you can hire a car and drive yourself around.

It’s a little more complicated if you want to take a tour. An organized vacation package will probably get you to more places in a shorter time, but it’s hard to find a tour that has everything you want to do – and nothing that you don’t. On the other hand, an independent tour involves a lot of preparation, contacting all the different hotels on the way, etc. Or perhaps you can work out your itinerary and then find an agency to help you with the bookings – the best of both worlds!
