If you’re looking for adventure travel in Spain, it’s hard to beat the Pyrenees. Although there are many parts of Europe where you can find adventure travel, the Spanish side of the Pyrenees offers many activities that you’d have to travel a long way to find another place where you could do them all together.
People have populated this northern area of Spain for many thousands of years, and that also adds to the appeal of adventure travel there. You can follow ageless shepherd trails in full view of snow capped mountains, stopping along the way to take in all that adventure travel has to offer in this part of Spain.
If you are looking for something more, perhaps a hang gliding expedition into the Pyrenees is what you’re after. You will be hard put to find more adventure travel opportunities anywhere else outside the Pyrenees.
Things to Do in the Pyrenees: a Five Day Trip
Day one of your adventure travel in Spain begins with a hike from Pamplona straight into the Pyrenees. After hiking all day, you can descend to Sirasa for a night’s stay in one of the oldest and most charming villages of Spain.
Day two brings you to Mt. Bisaurin and Ordesa National Park. There you can hike among 10,000 foot mountains on ageless trails. Spend your night in the village of Torla and enjoy true Spanish charm.
On day three, venture back into Ordesa and hike below Monte Perdido while you watch the mountain goats scramble up the cliffs. For the evening, return back to Torla before heading off to Ainsa the next day. Ainsa is an old medieval part of northern Spain where you will find the village of Taüll, which contains magnificent Romanesque churches from a bygone era.
The next day, make your way over to Aiguestortes National Park to view the amazing glaciers and ice caps. You can grab lunch at a mountain lodge on top of the Ice Fountain. Descend to Caldes de Boi, and old spa village, and stay in a luxury hotel to relax your muscles from all the hard hiking and travelling.
This five-day plan is just a sample of the sorts of things you can do in Northern Spain - and in a few parts of southern Spain as well. Hiking in the mountains, visiting national and nature parks, visiting the summits of mountaintops to view the wonderful scenery - even having a picnic on the summit - are just some of the marvelous things you can do. Read around the rest of this website and you’ll probably find lots of other suggestions to make your adventure travel in Spain just fantastic.
