Scenic Holidays In Lanzarote
from guestLanzarote is a well known package holiday destination but this trend is changing now a growing number of independent tourists are starting to visit the island. Attracted by its great year round climate, breathtaking beaches and stunning surreal scenery Lanzarote boasts lots of natural wonders which were created during the 18th century by some seriously large scale volcanic activity.
Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the Canary Islands and has been a popular holiday destination since the 1970?s. It’s still going strong today too – welcoming millions of foreign tourists every year. And whist many are here to enjoy the glorious sunshine on the beach or by the pool most still find plenty of time to explore too.
The island however boasts enough stunning sights to lure them away from their Lanzarote holiday villas behind for at least a days exploring and touring. Landscapes, water sports, culture and history. Lanzarote boasts a plethora of activities for a wide range of age groups so it is little wonder than visitors can return year after year and still have a unique holiday experience. Attractions or activities? The choice is yours but some good suggestions include:
Parque Tropical, Parque Tropical not quite the size of some of it’s European counterparts but well worth putting aside half a day for a visit for both the stunning views and also the variety of birdlife here. The park operates a very successful breeding program and the kids will simply love watching the amazing variety of parrots and other exotic birds that can be found here.
Or maybe :
El Bosque, Lanzarote has its own wood called El Bosque and which can be found in the north of the island. Although it is very difficult to track down as it isn’t marked on many local maps and signposts are non existent. So ensuring that this remains a spot largely reserved for the use of the locals who love to come up here at weekends on holidays for BBQ?s and social gatherings.
If these are not to your taste you could also try Cuevas de los Verdes - Once a hiding place from marauding invaders and real life pirates the Green Caves are almost mystical and certainly have a colourful history. Although only 2km of this amazing 6km long system are open to the public there will be no disappointed visitors to this attraction. Carefully planned lighting effects and sympathetic transformations by Jesus Soto show off the true visual magnificence of the cave that when combined with a local tour expose the very essence of Cuevas de los Verdes. If you pay a visit to fire mountain around fifteen minutes further to the north lies Lanzarote?s Green Lagoon, which is situated just outside a small village called El Golfo. The Green Lagoon has starred in a number of major motion pictures over the years – most famously One Million Years BC. As this was the spot where Raquel Welch emerged from the sea in her animal skin bikini.
The north of the island offers another spectacular green surprise – in the form of the Valley of 1000 Palms. Where villagers from Haria have created a huge swaying oasis by planting a Canarian palm for every new born child here.
