Lanzarote’s Leading Resort
from guestEvery one of the Canary Islands has its favourite resorts and the Island of Lanzarote is no exception. The resort of Puerto del Carmen remains high on the list of favourites as it sheltered position against a backdrop of volcanoes means that it is well sheltered and an excellent sun trap.
As a result the fine sandy beaches that line its seven kilometres of coastline make it an ideal place for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling. Whilst recent changes to the seafront promenade have shifted the emphasis to pedestrian enjoyment, with wide pavements and shady spots.
Over the course of its history, Puerto del Carmen has been transformed from a small village surrounding a harbour to a tourist destination. The majority of visitors to the town will stay in self-catering accommodation, of which there is an extensive selection. Finding accommodation here should not be a problem as their are plenty of apartments in Lanzarote to pick from.
Almost every villa has been appointed with comfortable furniture and extra facilities to make it feel like a proper home from home. Quite apart from pools and hot tubs, there is usually a good choice of home entertainment available too, with films, books and games all on tap.
There is no shortage of restaurants throughout the town, with almost every type of cuisine represented from Thai to Irish. Perhaps the most atmospheric area for dining is the old harbour, where numerous establishments look out over the sea towards the southern tip of the island.
Nightlife, on the other hand, tends to be focused around the central area of the new town, where a good selection of clubs and bars can be found. Many of the busier clubs don’t open until the early hours of the morning, as is typical in most Spanish resorts.
