Appreciating the Colorful Spanish Culture!

Some countries thrive on its export products, some take pride in their inventions and some celebrates its colorful history. Spain is one of those fortunate countries that have experience an extensive influences from different nationalities and ethnicities for the past hundreds and hundreds of years.

Where Spain at?

Spain can be found the Southwestern of Europe. It is near the Mediterranean Sea that enables it to become a progressive place way before the Romans came. The strategic location of this country made it one of the busiest ports in the world. Trading and selling of goods with other foreign sailors or with the locals there.

What is in Spanish Culture?

The Spanish culture is known to be very colorful and fascinating past. Muslim conquerors came and build mosques for prayer and praise. These Muslims came from Africa and the Middle East through the Mediterranean Sea. After the Muslims the Romans came in to take over the country. Baths, theaters and temples for their Gods were built during their reign. Recent excavations had showed how the Romans had lived in high society and their extravagant lifestyle. Then the Catholicism came in. Even though there was an agreement not to touch or destroy the mosques built by the former conquerors the Muslims, some mosques were destroyed to be reconstructed again but this time it was changed into churches. A church is the place for prayers for the Roman Catholics.

The influences and artifacts such as arts like paintings and sculptures were much preserved for the present generation to enjoy and take part in the history. Spain aside from their past has also attracted the attention of many tourists due to the country’s natural attractions. The place called Costa Blanca which is known for its beaches and golf courses, thousands of visitors come and go all year round.

The arts and paintings are hundred of years old already and still beautiful to the eyes of the tourists. The Markets in the area sell almost anything that you can imagine. From chickens to shoes you can buy it all there. Bargaining and negotiating for the prices of goods will never be a problem.

Spanish Culture

Spain is well known for its cultural diversity as well as its historical acceptance of various cultures within the cities and rural areas. Many of the ancient cities in Spain are designated World Heritage Sites simply because they had communities of Muslims, Jewish and Christian inhabitants all living together in peace.

There are several different regions in Spain that adhere very strongly to specific languages and cultural practices within these regions. Some of the most well known of these regional areas include the Basque region, Anadalusia, Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. Each of these regions identify themselves very strongly as individual regions but within the larger country of Spain. Regional foods and even dialects are most common within these areas and special festivals, events, foods, wines and even traditions will clearly identify them. (more…)
