However you choose to pronounce it Majorca – or Mallorca – is the biggest island in the Balearics. Which can be found just off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. To the surprise of many first time visitors Mallorca is in fact part of Catalonia, so Catalan rather than Spanish is the official language here.

When in Barcelona you are sure to take a ramble along Las Ramblas. Most of the time, people rent an hotel barcelone near this incredible street because it’s a real great show. OK, it’s very busy and quite touristy so beware of thieves. But one of the most significant things you can find in Las Ramblas is the human statues!
The human statues are delightful. They are street artists featured as imaginative as they can, from celebs and mythological beings to hypothetical characters exposing on the sides of the avenue and entertaining for some money. Costumes used for their representations of the inert are so complicated and intricate which has become art and, in some cases, it reaches the sublime.
Their ideas are just admirable : Elfs, robots, monkeys, aliens, trees are just few of the many statues that you may could expect when walking along Las Ramblas which is always full of events. If you drop a coin into their box / hat / whatever you can have your photo taken with them and they’ll move. There are a few of them dotted around.

Joan Miró Foundation
Father of the surrealist movement, Juan Mir was born in Barcelona in 1893. It is no coincidence that the Catalan capital hosts the biggest collection of the entire region. We are talking about the Juan Mir Foundation, located in a beautiful building placed on Montjuic hill; a complicated formed and developed around a square courtyard. One of the features which make this building unique are the various rooms with sufficient skylights that permit visitors to admire the works by exploiting the natural light. In the Montjuic area ( the famous hill of Barcelona ) you’ll find masses of Barcelone Appartement Location excellent for your holiday in the town.
The foundation hosts many works from the Catalan artist, including some fascinating sculptures. The total sum is about eleven thousand pieces, including 240 paintings, eight thousand drawings and nearly 175 sculptures. As well as this there also are nine textile exhibits, four ceramics works and a whole crop of graphics.
It was Mir himself who donated almost all of the works on display while others were donated by the collection of Joan Prats or from the widow of Mir, Pillar Juncosa. Among the most famous works to be seen is “Morning star” made by the artist in Normandy or “Constelaciones” ; a collection of twenty-three works to which the Morning star belongs.
Some of the most important work from the artist isn’t in the museum but placed on the highways of Barcelona : the sculpture “woman and Bird”, the bronze “Woman”, the floor of the “Pla of the Os” in the middle of Rambla, near Liceu are on show for everyone to see. At Terminal B in the Barcelona Prat airfield you can look at his superb ceramic wall decoration ( Mir featuring JL Antigas ).
The building of the Foundation on Montjuic hill also hosts a rich monographic library on the Barcelonan artist and masses of information regarding contemporary and recent art in general. There are far more than 25,000 books and exhibition catalogues, in addition to mags collections and video and audio contributions.
To get to the Mir Foundation you want to take the metro ( line one or three ) and get off at Espanya, where the gorgeous plaza d’Espanya stands, with the impressive fountain. Here there are several Barcelone Location excellent for your stay in the town. The cost of a full ticket is 7.20 euros and in summer ( July-September ) the opening times run from Tues. to saturday, from 10 to 20. On Sundays and other holidays, the museum is open from 10 to 14.30.
