Self catering accommodation in Spain typically consists of houses, condos, apartments, farmhouses or cottages that are available for rental directly between the owner and the guest. There are several websites that provide pictures and descriptions of properties as well as their general location and offer a managed way of the guest and the owner working together to develop a rental agreement.

Self catering accommodations are different from hotels or bed and breakfasts in that the guest is actually assuming all aspects of the rental, the owner provides the building and contents and nothing else in the way of services except as outlined by the contractual agreement. This means that the guest or renter will be responsible for cleaning the property as required, buying groceries, preparing meals and other tasks and chores as required. This is really a chance to live in a home that is virtually your own for the length of the rental. Since the home owner is not providing any additional services and there is no staff required, the cost of self catering accommodations is often much more reasonable than staying at a hotel, bed and breakfast or a villa where staff is provided. Of course may renters choose to hire cleaning staff while they are at the property, but this is typically done outside of the owner’s contract.

Finding self catering accommodations in Spain is really quite simple. Several websites that are secure and reliable are available that allow potential renters to browse through self catering houses in Spain based on number of bedrooms, location, proximity to attractions and even amenities in the house or residence. Once the renter finds a match they are then required to work directly with the owner to develop a contract. Contracts will usually require a ten to fifty percent non-refundable deposit on the property that must be made within a specific timeframe of the booking to ensure the property will be available. In addition the renter may request a confirmation of your name and identification and should provide the same for you as the renter. You will also need to have accurate contact information for the owner in the event of a question or emergency.

Often owners will meet the renters at the property to exchange the key and to provide any instructions and confirm contact information. It is important to follow all rules and expectations and to ask questions of the owner if there are any concerns.
