While most people spend their holidays in Spain in a hotel, many people, especially families with kids, prefer to rent an apartment. Spain offers a very wide choice in rental apartments, both of the apartment hotel type (“apartoteles”) and independent, often privately-owned, apartments. You’ll find apartments of all sizes, although the most common will take between 4 and 6 occupants.
Most of these apartments are to be found on the coast, although it is becoming more and more common to rent an apartment in a big city - Barcelona is probably the city with the most complete supply of apartments for rent.
The main advantage of apartments, of course, is the independence and freedom they provide, as compared with a hotel. They are also self-catering, so from the food point of view they can save you quite a lot of money. And, in general, it just feels a bit more like home than staying in a hotel.
Where to Look
Most people who want to find an apartment in Spain will choose a package, including flight, accommodation and transfers. And most packages are sold by travel agents. However, it’s not necessary to leave the comfort of your home to find what you’re looking for. Most of the good, big travel agencies have their own “shops” on the internet, and you can take your time looking over their whole offer.
If you’re a little uncertain about buying something on internet, we suggest you use one of the best known travel agents in the UK: Thomson Holidays. Just search for a holiday, in the region you want to go to, and you’ll be presented with a list of hotels and apartments to stay. Just ignore the hotels, and look at the apartments and self-catering options. Click on the name of the apartments you like the look of and you’ll find a full description. When you’ve made up your mind, book – and that’s it! And, of course, you can be sure that you’ll get exactly what it says you’ll get, because you have the guarantee of the leading UK agency.
If you don’t like the idea of a package, or if you want to be more adventurous, just carry out a search on Google for “rental apartments spain” and you’ll be presented with various websites offering apartments for rent in different parts of Spain. Most of them are basically agencies allowing the apartment owners to advertise on their websites. To actually rent the apartment you’ll probably have to contact the owner direct. While you’ll probably find some good bargains this way, you’ll need to be more careful. Make sure, especially, that you know exactly what is included in the price and what is not.
Whichever way you decide to find tour rental apartment – good hunting!
